John E. Burnett – age 67, of Laurens, passed away Monday, January 25, 2021, at Pleasant View Home in Albert City, Iowa.

John Eldon Burnett was born January 22, 1953 in Coos Bay, Oregon. He was the son of Leroy and Shirley (Lusk) Burnett. He attended Springfield High School in Springfield, Oregon. John then worked as a welder, building heavy machinery and later worked on fishing boats in Alaska, Oregon and Florida. John moved to Laurens, Iowa in the spring of 1991, where he worked at Fisher Hydraulics and met Jayne. On April 9, 1994, John was united in marriage to Jayne Eileen Black. The couple made their home near Laurens, where they bought and maintained an acreage. Once John and Jayne retired, they spent most of their time working on the acreage and tending to their garden. The couple eventually sold their farmstead and bought a house in Laurens where they lived until late 2020. They then moved to Pleasant View Home in Albert City, Iowa.

John was very mechanically inclined and could take anything apart and put it back together. He was always tinkering with something. He loved hunting, fishing, animals and spending time on the water with family and friends.

Survivors include his mother, Shirley; step-children, Tina (Terry) Cohoon of Little Rock and Troy Pedersen of Sioux Rapids; brother, Robert Burnett of Springfield, OR; sister, Leanne Butterfield of Drain, OR; nephew, Jason Burnett of Eugene, OR; nieces, Latasha Williams-Lemon of Yoncalla, OR and Tiffany Johnson of Phoenix, AZ; 5 step-grandchildren; 4 step-great-grandchildren; 5 great-nephews, 3 great-nieces, 3 great-great-nephews and many aunts, uncles and cousins in Oregon.

John was preceded in death by his father, Leroy and wife, Jayne.
