John W. Grey – age 76, of Pocahontas, passed away on Thursday, February 11, 2021, at the Pocahontas Community Hospital in Pocahontas, Iowa.

John William Grey was born October 14, 1944, in Fort Dodge, Iowa. He was the son of Glen and Hazel (Weideman) Grey. He attended country school near Manson before graduating from high school in 1963. John then enlisted into the United States Navy where he served for 22 years, retiring in 1985. He served on the submarine, USS Bluefish for 11 years. He then served at various stations around the world. John was married to Judy Thompson for several years. He then married Victoria Beister. After his military service, John worked as an EMT at Manson for 12 years, then managed the Radio Shack in Pocahontas for many years. John then worked odd jobs and continued helping people with electronics.

In his free time, John loved working on model trains, collecting trinkets and belt buckles. He also enjoyed watching movies and working on computers.

Survivors include his son, Shawn Grey of Texas; daughters, Sherry Jacobs of Alaska, Bethany Burton of Alaska, Cass Heltzel of Colorado and Mariha Grey of Pocahontas; stepchildren, Clayton Kirkegaard of Pomeroy, Shane Kirkegaard of Maine and Shawn Kirkegaard of Iowa; many grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and a sister, Doris of Manson, Iowa. John was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Merle and a sister, Joyce.
