Joyce D. Schoon – age 91, of Rockwell City, formerly of Pomeroy, passed away on Friday, February 21, 2020, at the Stewart Memorial Hospital in Lake City, Iowa.

Joycelyn Dolores Johnson was born on February 15, 1929 in Albert City, Iowa. She was the daughter of Joe and Myrtle Johnson. She was baptized and confirmed at Mission Covenant Church in Pomeroy. Joyce graduated from Pomeroy High School in 1946 and attended Iowa School of Beauty in Des Moines, Iowa. Joyce worked as a secretary at German Mutual Insurance. In 1956, she married Harold Schultz. Between them they had five children, Karen, Kathy, Mike, Jerry and Gloria. The couple settled west of Pomeroy where they farmed and raised their family. When Harrold retired, they moved into town. He passed away in 1988. In 1990, Joyce married Roy Schoon and they continued to live in Pomeroy. She was a housekeeper at the Pomeroy Care Center for over 26 years.

Joyce was an active member of St. John Lutheran Church. She sang in the choir, was a Jr. Lutheran Sponsor, Sunday School teacher and a circle officer. Joyce enjoyed playing the piano for sing-a-longs at the Pomeroy Care Center and also helped with bingo.

Joyce is survived by her husband, Roy; children, Karen (Phillip) Samuelson, Mike (Miriam) Schultz, Jerry (Carol) Schultz and Gloria (Michael) Swanson; son-in-law, Dick Vanderpool; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nephews, nieces and cousins; brother, Larry (Donna) Johnson and Roy's children, Lisa, Barbara, John and their families.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harold; daughter, Kathy Vanderpool and brother, Kenneth Johnson.
