Kathy Johnson, age 72, of Lake City, IA, passed away peacefully at her home on Aug 31, 2026, surrounded by her husband Jeff and her children. Kathryn Marie was born on September 1, 1953, in Marshalltown, Iowa, to Charles "Chuck" and Catherine "Kate" Champlin.

Kathy grew up in Lohrville, Iowa, where she graduated from Lohrville Community High School before pursuing her nursing degree at Saint Anthony School of Nursing in Carroll.

On August 23, 1974, Kathy married Jeffery L. Johnson. Together, they were blessed with three children: Jeremy, Jessica, and Jayme.

Kathy dedicated many years to her career as a nurse in Lake City and the surrounding areas, later providing compassionate, private in-home care for families.

Kathy was compassionate, vibrant, and full of energy, always had a cup of coffee in hand, and a unique way with words. She was always at her happiest on the farm, where she had a special gift for nursing just about anything back to health. She loved her family deeply—especially her three sisters and 12 grandkids—but she always saved a little extra energy for her most important job: keeping Jeff on his toes.

Kathy is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, Jeff Johnson of Lake City. She also leaves behind her children: Jeremy (Kalina) Johnson and their children, Taylor, Luke, Mackenzie, Charlotte, Bo, and Otis; Jessica Johnson (Chad Blackwell) and her children, Hayden and Hanna; and Jayme (Jeff) Kock and their children, Cale, Case, Harper, and Cole. She is also survived by her two great-grandchildren, Theo and Archie; her sisters, Annette (Ware) Champlin, Marye (John) Hunter, and Cindy "Sam" (Chris) Storey; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.

Kathy was preceded in death by her parents, Chuck and Kate Champlin; her in-laws, Dwight and Frankie Johnson; and her brother-in-law, Doug Johnson.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 19, 2026, at the Lampe and Powers Funeral Home. Visitation will be 9:00- 11:00 am Saturday, September 19, 2026, at the Lampe and Powers Funeral Home. Burial will take place in the Lake City Cemetery. A Celebration of Life and luncheon will take place at the St. Marys Fellowship Hall in Lake City, Iowa, following the Burial.
