Kaye Olson, age 88, of Pocahontas, passed away on Sunday, March 17, 2024, at the Willows of Marshalltown, Marshalltown, Iowa.

Beverly Kaye Olson was born on March 1, 1936, in Iowa City, Iowa. She was the daughter of John J. "Jack" Hoffert and C. Estella (Young) Hoffert. She attended the Pocahontas Public School, graduating in 1953. On April 30, 1954, she married Charles Arthur Olson at the Methodist Church in Pocahontas. The couple lived in Pocahontas and Palmer.

Kaye worked as assistant janitor at the Pocahontas County Courthouse, retiring after over 26 years of service. She served as a news correspondent for the Pocahontas Record Democrat newspaper, retiring in 2017 after more than 50 years. She worked a variety of other jobs including Nurse's Aide, Food Aide, and was the first Home Health Aide to work in Pocahontas County.

Active in the community, Kaye participated in the Pocahontas Mobile Meals program, serving as a board member for the life of the program. In addition, she and Charles delivered Congregate Meals. She was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Pocahontas.

After retirement, she learned how to use a computer and put it to use for keeping in touch with relatives, friends and classmates. She also used it for creating family history files as well as stories about her childhood for family enjoyment.

Kaye's greatest joy was visiting with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Charles and Kaye loved country music and they enjoyed seeing it performed live during their many annual trips to Branson, Missouri, their home away from home. Charles entered Pocahontas Manor Care Center in 2015 and Kaye was a loyal daily visitor until his passing in 2020.

Survivors include children Dana (Jenifer) Olson of El Cajon, CA, Dallas (Lori) Olson of Pocahontas, Joel (Lynette) Olson of Greenfield, DeAnn (Marty) Cundiff of Pocahontas and Janelle (Dan) Moellers of Marshalltown; 13 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Kaye was preceded in death by her parents, husband Charles, son Jon Olson; sisters Luella Halder, Edythe Monselle, Dorothy Blomberg and Darlene Goerner; and brother Donald Hoffert.

In Lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made out to St. Peter Lutheran Church, Pocahontas, Iowa.
