Larry A. Nelson, age 81, of Rolfe, passed away on Friday, March 1, 2024, at the Pocahontas Community Hospital in Pocahontas, Iowa.

Larry Arthur Nelson was born February 23, 1943, in Fairmont, Minnesota. He was the son of Arthur and Vivie Nelson. Larry and his family lived in Armstrong for a short time until 1947 when they moved to the Swan Lake Potato Farm near Laurens. One of Larry's favorite memories as a young man was buying his first Harley at 16 years old. He attended Laurens High School and later completed his GED. Larry worked on the farm following his education. In 1963, he and his family moved to Rolfe where Larry held various jobs. He later worked for the City of Rolfe for 10 years. Following his time with the city, he trucked for PWM Transport and Howard Vile. In the early to mid-80s, Larry began his business Rolfe Plumbing and Heating which he operated until around 2010 when he retired.

Larry was a volunteer fireman on the Rolfe Fire Department for 32 years, which he greatly enjoyed. He also enjoyed woodworking, reading his bible, and watching the kids at the neighboring park catch fish.

Survivors include his daughter, Angela Vanderhoff of Gilmore City; his son, Jody (Marrietta) Nelson of O'Fallon, IL; 4 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-grandchild on the way.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Cody Vanderhoff; brother, Lyle Nelson; sisters, LaVonne Yackle and Maurine Burgess, along with nieces and nephews.
