Leo J. Schuttler, age 83, of Pocahontas, passed away on Saturday, August 19, 2023, at the Pocahontas Community Hospital in Pocahontas, Iowa.

Leo James Schuttler was born on January 22, 1940, in Mallard, Iowa. He was the son of Clarence and Tina (Doyen) Schuttler. He was educated in Palmer grade and High School. On December 31, 1960, Leo was united in marriage to Jane Schott in Pocahontas. The couple settled in Pocahontas. Leo worked in the Culligan Plant for several years. He then worked for the Iowa DOT in maintenance and as a truck and snow plow operator, retiring after 35 years of service. In retirement Leo spent his summers working for the Pocahontas County Conservation Commission doing mowing and park maintenance for ten years. He also worked as a custodian at the Pocahontas Catholic School and mowed the church cemetery for several years.

Leo was a member of the Resurrection of Our Lord Catholic Church. He was active in the county fair for many years. Leo enjoyed fishing, sprint car races and playing cards. He made many quilts which he gave to his grandchildren and others and also donated a quilt for the Catholic school fundraiser every year. He especially enjoyed following his kids sports activities and was known as a kind and gentle man who would help anyone in need.

Survivors include his wife, Jane of Pocahontas; children, Dennis (Pam) Schuttler of Algona, Kevin (Connie) Schuttler of Ankeny and Mark (Chantel) Schuttler of LeMars; 6 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

Leo was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Lester, Lyle and Louis Schuttler and one nephew.
