Margene A. Bunda – age 73, of Pocahontas, passed away Tuesday,
May 19, 2020, at the Palo Alto County Hospital in Emmetsburg, Iowa.

Private Family Funeral Services - will be held on Friday, May 22, 2020,

at the Powers Funeral Home in Pocahontas with Msgr. Michael Sernett officiating.

Burial – Calvary Cemetery in Pocahontas, Iowa.

There will be no visitation.

Margene Annette Blaha was born August 29, 1946, in Pocahontas, Iowa. She was the daughter of Joseph and Margalet (Walstead) Blaha. She graduated from Sacred Heart High School in 1964 then went on to St. Vincent School of Nursing in Sioux City, Iowa where she became a registered nurse. On April 22, 1968, Margene was united in marriage to Wesley Jr. "Bud" Bunda at the SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Pocahontas. The couple settled near Pocahontas. Margene worked as a nurse at the Pocahontas Community Hospital from 1967 – 1974. She then worked in Dr. Slattery's office until 1979 when she began working in the Pocahontas Public Health Department. She served as a County Supervisor from 1988 – 1992. Margene also worked with Bud in his radio business. In 1992, Margene began serving as Pocahontas County Auditor. Bud passed away in 2009 and Margene continued as Auditor until retiring in 2016.
Margene was a member of the Resurrection Catholic Church, the Catholic Ladies Society and the SS Peter and Paul Historical Society. She served on many Pocahontas County Boards, including the Economic Development Commission, Solid Waste Commission and Board of Health. Margene enjoyed spending time at her lake home in Minnesota and wintering in Jamaica. She was especially proud of her grandchildren and treasured the time she spent with them. Over the years, Margene spent much time as a caregiver to family and friends in need of help.
Survivors include her sons, Tim (Joan) Bunda of Emmetsburg and Brian (Carrie) Bunda of Pocahontas; six grandchildren Dalton, Madison, Katelyn, Natalie, Riley and Carley and a sister, Barb (John) Cuthbertson of Estherville, IA. Margene was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Wesley Jr. "Bud" and a brother, Mick Blaha.
