Marie E. Pattee, a life-long resident of Pocahontas, Iowa, passed away at the age of 97 on October 6, 2024, at the Laurens Care Center.

Marie Elizabeth Stejskal, the daughter of Frank and Rose (Hotovec) Stejskal, was born on July 18, 1927, in Pocahontas, Iowa. She grew up on a farm northwest of Pocahontas, attended country school, Ware High School, and graduated from Sacred Heart Catholic School in 1944. After high school, Marie attended the Des Moines School of Business, and then worked at the The Pocahontas Record-Democrat.

On October 21, 1946 she was united in marriage to Leo Pattee at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Pocahontas. Marie and Leo built a home in Pocahontas where they raised five children. While Leo worked at Pattee Clothing throughout their marriage, Marie was a stay-at-home mother and wife. She was an excellent cook, seamstress, and decorator, who could fix anything, according to her grandchildren.

Marie enjoyed golfing, bowling, fishing, and playing Bridge. After she had raised her children, she enjoyed painting ceramics, doing needle work, and making quilts and rugs. She loved watching and feeding the birds and especially loved her cardinals. She was a member of The Resurrection of Our Lord Parish, the Altar and Rosary Society, the American Legion Auxiliary, two women's bridge clubs and a couple's duplicate bridge club. She was known for her great sense of humor, her creativity, her work ethic, and her willingness to help her family and friends, when needed.

The Pattee Christmas on Christmas Day each year was a priority for all the family, because Marie made it so special. The family also enjoyed the "Pattee Relation Vacation" each summer at Okoboji and in the last 30 years, at Burt Lake, Michigan.

Marie is survived by her children, Diane Hallquist of Indianapolis, Indiana, Joane (John) Amick of Oelwein, Iowa, Howard Pattee (Bonnie Wells) of Pocahontas, Iowa, Janice Pattee of Indianapolis, Indiana, and daughters-in-law, Jeanne McCartan of Des Moines, Iowa, and Diane Pattee of Pocahontas. Other survivors include nine grandchildren, Tyler Hallquist, Megan Oliver, Craig Amick, Gina Evans, Emily Amick, Deanna Amick, Andrea Dodds, Tricia Pattee, and Mitchell Pattee, and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo, her parents, son, Joe Pattee, son-in-law, Derry Hallquist, two brothers, Frank and Joe Stejskal, and three sisters, Eleanor Polich, Anne Harrold, and Judy Flaherty.

Memorials in memory of Marie may be directed to the Pocahontas Catholic School or a charity of your choice.

Marie's family would also like to thank all those who cared for her for so many years including the staff at Arlington Place, the Laurens Care Center, and St. Croix Hospice.
