Mark J. Gannon, age 103, of Elmwood Park, IL, formerly of Pocahontas, passed away on Sunday, May 4, 2025, at Seasons Hospice at MacNeal Hospital in Berwyn, IL.

Mark Joseph Gannon was born February 20, 1922, in Varina, Iowa. He was the son of Thomas and Gladys (Steiner) Gannon. Mark was raised in the Pocahontas area where he graduated from Sacred Heart High School in 1940. In November of 1942, Mark entered the Army Air Force where he served his country during World War II. He was honorably discharged in February of 1946 with the rank of Staff Sergeant. Following his military service, Mark began his career and eventually settled in the Chicago area. He was the controller (head accountant) for Sears. He retired in 1984 and continued to make his home in the Chicago area until his passing.

Mark was a member of the St. Vincent Catholic Church in River Forest, IL, where he contributed greatly. He enjoyed dancing, golfing and watching sports in his free time. Mark was very generous in contributing to charities and causes important to him. One year recently, he contributed to 24 different charities/causes.

Survivors include his sister, Elaine Eral of Pocahontas, brother, Joe Gannon of Forest Park, IL, and many nieces and nephews.

Mark was preceded in death by his parents, Tom and Gladys, and his siblings, John Gannon, Francis Gannon, Gwen Stokes, Bill Gannon and Bonnie DeWall.
