Mary Jane Fischer – age 94, of Pocahontas, passed away on Friday, November 19, 2021, at the Arlington Place in Pocahontas, Iowa.

Mary Jane Wiegert was born on April 4, 1927, in Palmer, Iowa. She was the only daughter of Corliss and Kathleen (Dempsey) Wiegert. She attended Palmer schools, graduating from Palmer High School in 1945. She went on to attend Wartburg College and ISU. After attending college, she was employed at the Fort Dodge Labs. On February 7, 1948, Mary Jane was united in marriage to August Fischer in Palmer, Iowa. The couple settled on the family farm south of Pocahontas where they farmed and raised their family. Augie passed away in June of 2005 after 57 years of marriage. Mary Jane continued to live on the farm. After 70 plus years on the farm, Mary Jane moved to Arlington Place of Pocahontas.

Mary Jane was a member of the Resurrection of Our Lord Catholic Church, Missionary Ladies Quilt Club, Catholic Ladies Society, American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Post #18 in Pocahontas and was a 4-H Leader. She operated a ceramics business in Pocahontas called The Kiln for several years and made beautiful products. She enjoyed sewing, painting, gardening and camping. She loved raising their family and especially spending time with family and friends at Lost Island Lake.

Survivors include her children, Jill (Steve) Lawler of Fort Dodge, IA. Janie (Rob) Happe of Carrollton, TX, Jack (Cyndy) Fischer of Twin Lakes, IA, Judy (Clark) Freatman of Centennial, CO and Joy (Don) Parry of Johnston, IA; 19 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren.

Mary Jane was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Augie and grandchildren, Travis Fischer, Ryan Chavez and Abbie Hout.
