Mary M. McCoy, age 75, of Fonda, passed away on Wednesday, June 12, 2024, at the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home in Fort Dodge, Iowa.

Mary Margaret McCoy was born December 21, 1948, in Shenandoah, Iowa. She was the daughter of Garlen and Katheryn (Veach) McCoy. Mary was raised in Shenandoah where she attended the local school. In high school, she was an avid swimmer and diver on the school team and was known as a jokester and prankster who loved to make people laugh. Following high school graduation, she earned her RN certification at St. Mary's Nursing School. Mary also received her Public Health Nurse certification from Clarinda Community College. She worked as a Public Health Nurse for 14 years in Shenandoah until she moved to the Storm Lake and Fonda area in 2000.

Mary was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Newell. She found great encouragement with her church friends and going to women's bible studies. She enjoyed helping with "Reagan Roundup" which encouraged and sent care packages to military people overseas. Mary loved her Doberman, Spike, whom she had for 14 years. He was followed by another dog she loved named Hope. She also enjoyed gardening, riding on Harleys in her leather outfits, quilting, writing poetry and skydiving, having jumped over 60 times and was always wishing she could do it again.

Survivors include her brother, Garlen Jr. (Marilyn) McCoy of Shenandoah; sister, Janice (John) Ottens of Bellevue, NE; several nieces and nephews, and many friends.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Garlen and Katheryn McCoy, and a sister, Pamela Bond.
