Mary Ann Shimon, age 93, of Pocahontas, passed away peacefully at Pocahontas Community Hospital on March 19, 2026.

Mary Ann Schroeder was born on March 14, 1933, in Pocahontas, Iowa. She was the daughter of Frank and Agnes Schroeder. Mary Ann attended Sacred Heart Catholic School throughout elementary and high school, where she began a lifelong love of piano and piano performance, demonstrated her leadership skills as a high school cheerleader, and began her involvement in Catholic Daughters of America at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Mary Ann attended Clarke College in Dubuque, Iowa, as a Music Major and while there accompanied many musical performances. In 1953, Mary Ann married her high school sweetheart, Charles A. Shimon. The couple was able to celebrate 71 years of a loving, happy life together before Chuck's passing in 2025.

Mary Ann enjoyed her social circles, C.D. of A., several bridge clubs, golf leagues, golf tournaments, and piano accompaniment for the Catholic Church choir. She was a very loving, dedicated wife and mother, cared for her parents as they aged, loved her faith, her relatives, and many, many special friends. She often would say, with a big smile on her face, "Oh, who has more fun than people?" Mary Ann was a very imaginative, creative, happy person who loved life.

Survivors include her daughter, Carolyn Belk (John Drelicharz); son, Edward (Debra) Shimon; 8 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Agnes Schroeder, her parents-in-law, Albert and Charlotte Shimon; her husband, Charles A. Shimon; her sons, Thomas Shimon and Callen Shimon; her grandson, Chad Shimon.

Our family is grateful for the loving care received from the remarkable staff at Arlington Place where she and Chuck resided for the past three years. We would like to thank the wonderful medical staff at Pocahontas Hospital for their kind, loving care that Mom received during her stay. A special thank you to niece, Kay DeWall and her husband, John for all the support given to our parents during the past years.
