Mary L. Tinius - age 82, of Mansfield, Ohio, formerly of Laurens, passed away on Wednesday, February 12, 2020, at the OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital in Mansfield, Ohio.

Mary Louise Kuker was born November 26, 1937 in Carroll, IA to Martin and Luella Kuker and was the eldest of five children. She grew up near Havelock, IA. Mary attended Pocahontas Catholic School in Pocahontas, IA graduating in 1956. She received her teaching degree from Briar Cliff College, in Sioux City, student taught in Marcus, and taught 3rd grade in Laurens, IA for two years. On June 20,1959 she married H. Roger Tinius. They resided on the family farm near Laurens, IA for 30 years. They raised corn, soybeans, hogs, and four wonderful children!

In the early days they enjoyed playing bridge and traveling; she and Roger took trips to Hawaii, Spain and Morocco. In 1975 she traveled with a group on a Holy Year pilgrimage to Rome. As a result of making Cursillo, they deepened their relationship with the Lord Jesus, and became active in Full Gospel Businessmen's Fellowship, Women's Aglow, and the Algona Prayer Group. She was also an active member of the Laurens Sacred Heart Rosary Society. Mary lived as a testament to her faith and shared the love of Jesus everywhere she went!

Because of the farming crisis in the mid-1980's, Roger decided to begin a new career. He received an Associate degree in hotel/restaurant management and in 1989 they moved to Brookeville, PA and a year later to Mansfield, OH where he managed Super 8 Motels until his sudden passing in November 1993. Mary continued to reside in Mansfield.

Mary was very much an entrepreneur, first selling Sarah Coventry in the 1970's and Mary Kay cosmetics from 1986 onward. She enjoyed helping women become the most beautiful version of themselves. Up until the very end, she was collecting orders as the consummate Mary Kay Lady.
In her retirement, she started "Mary Lou with Muffins & More," providing the community with her fabulous pies, muffins and cookies.

Mary is survived by her four children and their families, Pamela (Mike) Heitz of Minneapolis, MN; Mike (Alison) Tinius of Sterling, VA; Jennifer (Pius) Reis, Bloomington, MN; and James (Rita) Tinius, Brentwood, TN. Her Grandchildren, Heather (Mark) Sauntry and Great grandson, Corwin Tipper, Phillip Heitz, Theresa (Seth) Norris, Sharon Heitz; Casey Tinius, Devon Tinius; Marcellina Reis, Robert Reis; Zachary Tinius and her Siblings: Carol (Paul) Sernett; Charles (Helen) Kuker; David (Linda) Kuker; Bernadette (the late Jeff) Tadlock, and 16 nieces and nephews.

A wake to honor Mary's life will be held on Friday, Feb. 21st from 5pm-7pm at the Powers Funeral Home; 502 4th Ave. NE; Pocahontas, IA 50574. The funeral will be held on Saturday, Feb. 22nd at 11am in the same location. Internment will be at the Calvary Cemetery in Pocahontas, IA following the funeral service. A luncheon will follow. All are welcome.
