Mary H. Turner, age 97, of Pocahontas, passed away on Monday, January 19, 2026, at Arlington Place in Pocahontas, Iowa.

Mary Helen Gasser was born on July 23, 1928, in Sioux Center, Iowa. She was the daughter of Charles and Elsie (DeCook) Gasser. She graduated from East High School, Sioux City, Iowa, in 1946 and went on to Morningside College where she earned her teaching degree, graduating in 1950. On August 12, 1950, Mary was united in marriage to James A. Turner at Grace Methodist Church in Sioux City. The couple settled on the Al and Ruth Turner farm near Pocahontas where they farmed and raised their family. In the early 1980's they moved into Pocahontas. Jim passed away in 1991 and Mary continued to make her home in Pocahontas. In 2022, she moved to Arlington Place of Pocahontas.

Mary was a member of Hope Church and the Martha Circle of the U.M.W. She sang in the church choir and Pocahontas Community chorus for several years. Mary served on the Iowa-Nebraska Christian Ashram Board and she enjoyed making stuffed animals, reading, sewing and gardening. She also gave generously to missions, saving the world $25 at a time.

Survivors include her children, Charles (Nancy) Rexford-Turner of Danvers, MA, Jim (Paula) Turner of Holland, IA, Mark (Angela) Turner of Kenmare, ND, Beth Lietz of Alta, IA and Brett (Inge) Turner of Hawthorn Woods, IL; 13 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jim; siblings, Marge Hobbs and Richard Gasser, and son-in-law, Dean Lietz.
