Maxine M. Cohoon, age 99, of Spencer, formerly of Laurens, passed away on Thursday, July 11, 2024, at St. Luke Nursing Home in Spencer, Iowa.

Maxine Marie Gillman was born September 29, 1924, in Rolfe, Iowa, to parents Thomas and Pearl (Packard) Gillman. She attended country schools near Rolfe and Mallard. On September 8, 1942, Maxine was united in marriage to John Cohoon in Fairmont, Minnesota. The couple settled in Laurens where they raised their family. John passed away in 1973 and Maxine continued to make her home in Laurens. She worked various jobs throughout her life, including at Coast-To-Coast Hardware, Stoner's Café and for several years at the Laurens Care Center where she later retired. In 2015, Maxine moved to Spencer to be closer to family.

Maxine was a member of the Laurens United Methodist Church, U.M.W. and the American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, puzzles, bingo, Yahtzee and was an avid reader. She especially enjoyed the time she spent with her family.

Survivors include her children, Gary (Kay) Cohoon of Flandreau, SD, Terry (Tina) Cohoon of Little Rock, IA and Sheri (Rick) Nelson of Spencer, IA; 14 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren, and a brother, Tommy Gillman of Gladwood, MI.

Maxine was preceded in death by her husband, John; daughter and son-in-law, Mary Kay and Keith Goodman; her parents, Thomas and Pearl; brothers, Clifford, Paul and Robert Gillman, and a sister, Beatrice Perrigo.
