Melvin Allen Abrahamson - age 72, of Havelock, Iowa passed away at his home on June 2, 2020.

Melvin was born in Fort Dodge, Iowa on July 17, 1947 to Everett and Viola (York-Peterson) Abrahamson. He attended Havelock-Plover Community School, graduating in 1966. After high school, he attended mechanic school in Omaha, Nebraska before enlisting in the Airforce in October of 1967. He took his basic training at Lackland Airforce base in San Antonio, Texas. After basic training he was stationed at what became his favorite place, Norton Airforce Base in San Bernadino, California. From this base he was deployed to Taiwan during the Vietnam War where he was a fireman. During his time in the Air Force, he rose to the rank of SSAT. After returning from Taiwan, he was stationed in Minot, North Dakota at Minot Air Force Base. He received his honorable discharge in 1971 and came home and farmed with his father. He continued to farm and for most of these years raised horses as well. He had a very deep love for American Quarter horses and when his health was failing and he couldn't care for them anymore, he had to give up this passion. He retired from farming in 2016.

His love for his horses was only surpassed by the love of his two daughters, Morgan and Brynn, who he raised as a single father. Although, the girls ran a close first to his second love, his special horse Pic Pocket!

He enjoyed going on trail rides with his horse and daughters, fishing with his brother and daughters, reading his western novels, watching the colts play in the pasture and watching television and having his favorite breed of dog, the Rottweiler for company. He was a very quiet man with a big heart!

Mel was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.

Left to keep him in their hearts are his daughters-Morgan (Kevin) Olson of Albert City, Iowa and Brynn (Chris) McGrew of Douglas, Kansas. His siblings-Paul (Linda) Abrahamson of Spencer, Iowa and Barbara (Rich) Dorr of Cleghorn, Iowa. His 7 grandchildren: Justin Casey, Colton McGrew and Raegan McGrew of Douglas, Kansas and Lain Olson and Mikala Huegerich of Albert City, Iowa, as well as many nieces and nephews.
