Michael J. Malecek - age 69, of Pocahontas, passed away Wednesday, November 25, 2020, at his home in Pocahontas, Iowa after a courageous battle with cancer.

Michael John Malecek was born in Laurens, Iowa on March 5, 1951. He was the son of Joseph Jr. and Jane (Point) Malecek. During high school Mike worked for Barrett Milling and Feed. He graduated from Pocahontas Catholic High School in 1969. He worked at Payless Cashways as Outside Foreman and engaged in farming. On December 12, 1981, Mike was united in marriage to Phyllis McKenna in Pocahontas. The couple made their home on the family farm near Pocahontas where they farmed and raised their family. In 2019 Mike semi-retired from farming and he and Phyllis moved in to Pocahontas.

Mike was a life member of the Resurrection of Our Lord Catholic Church. He served as usher and on the Parish Finance Council. He also served on the Pocahontas Catholic School Board. Mike enjoyed working the Pocahontas Machinery Auctions. He loved farming and was meticulous with everything he did, from farming, to care of his equipment, vehicles and his family farm. Mike especially enjoyed the time he spent with his family and friends

Survivors include his wife, Phyllis; daughter, Christine Malecek of Des Moines; son, Jim (Wendi) Malecek and their children, Sam and Cooper of Pocahontas; sister, Linda Olson of Fort Dodge; sister-in-law, Marlys Malecek of Osage and many other relatives. Mike was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Joe Malecek and brother-in-law, Dennis Olson.
