Mildred B. Devereaux – age 97, of Havelock, passed away on Thursday, August 22, 2019 at the Laurens Care Center in Laurens, Iowa.

Mildred Bernadine Olberding, the daughter of Bernard and Rosina (Niehaus) Olberding, was born December 20, 1921 on a farm west of Carroll, IA. She attended school in Maple River, IA through eighth grade. In March of 1935, Mildred moved to a farm near Havelock, IA, with her mom and four brothers. She graduated from Havelock High School in 1939. On May 4, 1943, Mildred married Francis (Bud) Devereaux at Sacred Heart Church in Pocahontas, IA. They farmed near Laurens for the first couple years, then moved back to the farm where Mildred had moved at fourteen. It was there that they raised their family. In 1979, Bud and Mildred moved into Havelock. Bud passed away March 12, 1997.

Mildred was a charter member of the Catholic Daughters of America and was active in the Ladies' Society. For many years she led the rosary before Mass on Sunday and took Communion to the residents at the Manor. Mildred generously transported friends to Mass, doctor and hair appointments, and shopping. For many decades she belonged to several clubs. Mildred enjoyed going on bus trips with Bud and later with friends. She loved to tend to her flower beds and arrange a bouquet for the house. Mildred was always ready for a game of cards and especially enjoyed playing with her grandchildren. In April 2013, Mildred moved to an apartment at Arlington Heights in Pocahontas and in June 2015 moved to the Laurens Care Center.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Francis, infant son Joseph and three daughters Rosalie, Jean, and Mary, four brothers and great-grandsons Jacob and Nicholas. Survivors include sons: Bill (Sandy), Pocahontas; Dennis (Melissa), Fonda; David, Wildwood, Mo; Gary (Annette), Fonda; Alan (Mary), Omaha, NE; daughters: Patricia (Lee) Bailey, Laurens; Lois (Ed) LeFebvre, Omaha, NE; sons-in-law: Doug Jones, Osceola, NE; Jerry Brunsing, West Point, NE. Grandchildren: Bill Jr., Joe, Susie, Kris, Mike, Dan, Kathy, Andrea, Peter, Abigail, Matt, Nathan, Casey, Robert, Lauren, Tom, Katie, Brian, David, Ryan, Amanda, Kristine, Greg, Scott, Mollie, Josh, Megan, Claire. Great-grandchildren: Ariana, Jenaya, Shay-Lynn, Zach, Natalie, Misti, Cheyenne, Bailey, Clay, Scott, Miranda, Clara, Zach, Nevin, Lyla, Kyler, Karter, Alice, Raymond, Lucy, Anna, Luke, Jack, Macy, Braden, Logan, Charlie, Della, Rosie, and Josie. Great-great-granchildren: Kynleigh, Harper and Ryker. Also numerous nieces and nephews.
