Monica L. Plantz

Monica L. Plantz, age 87, of Pocahontas, entered eternal life on Thursday, September 24, 2026, at the Pocahontas Community Hospital surrounded by her family.

Funeral Service is 10:30 AM, Monday, September 28, 2026, at Hope Church in Pocahontas, Iowa with Pastor David Kott officiating. Burial will take place in Summit Hill Cemetery in Pocahontas. Visitation is 4 - 6 PM, Sunday, September 27, at Powers Funeral Home in Pocahontas. Powers Funeral Home of Pocahontas is handling the arrangements.

Monica Louise Powers was born on November 21, 1938, to parents, Clyde and Ethel (Stauffer) Powers at their family farm home near Pocahontas, Iowa. Monica attended Pocahontas Community Schools and graduated as the Class Salutatorian in 1956. On June 30, 1957, Monica was united in marriage to Herbert “Bill” Plantz, Jr. at the United Methodist Church in Pocahontas. The couple immediately left for Washington where Bill was stationed while in the Army and Monica worked at the telephone company. They returned to Pocahontas to begin farming when Bill was discharged in 1958. They began their family in 1959 and raised all five children on the family farm before moving into Pocahontas in 1990.

Monica was a member of the Hope Church, the Women of Hope, Charity Circle, the K&K Club, TTT, and Eastern Star. Monica was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She had the most kind and generous heart and made everyone feel remembered and special. Monica enjoyed fishing, biking, trips with Bill, golfing with friends, trips to casinos, time spent at Lost Island, playing cards and dice and she loved to bake. She shared her baked goods with everyone. If you liked strawberries, rhubarb, tomatoes, apples, peaches or cherries, she would gladly make you a pie!

Survivors include Bill, her beloved husband and best friend for 69 years; children, Karla (David) Rutherford of Surprise, AZ, Dee (Jerry) Koster of Breda, IA, Brenda Plantz of Urbandale, IA, Randy (Kris) Plantz of Pocahontas, IA and Darci (John) Dorfler of West Des Moines, IA; grandchildren, Amber (Kent) Partida, Haley (Jake) Tolison, Shannon Rutherford, Trisha (Steve) Beckmann, Alex (Erin) Koster, Max (Kara) Koster, Kala (Ryan) Fredericksen, JR (Ashley) Plantz and Megan (Parker) Fifield; 19 great-grandchildren; brothers, Robert (Mona) Powers and Kenny (Denise) Powers; brother-in-law, Gerald (Kay) Plantz, Mel Harms and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Monica was preceded in death by her parents, Clyde and Ethel Powers; sisters, Opal Harms, Doris Sobotka and Susan Nancarrow; father and mother-in-law, Herbert and Lillian Plantz; two sisters-in-law, Janet Mansfield and Sonja Plantz and four brothers–in-law, Joe Sobotka, Steve Nancarrow, Joe Plantz and Erik Mansfield.
