Norma J. Hansen - age 88, of Ruthven, formerly of Laurens, passed away Sunday, August 8, 2021, at the Ruthven Care Center in Ruthven, Iowa.

Norma Jean Schneider was born on September 19, 1932, at Alton, Iowa. She was the daughter of Chris and Stella (Noethe) Schneider. Norma graduated from St. Mary's Academy in 1950. She then attended St. Joseph Mercy School of Nursing in Sioux City, Iowa, graduating in 1953. On April 8, 1953, Norma was united in marriage to Peter J. Hansen in Alton. In 1958, Pete and Norma settled in Laurens. Norma worked as an RN for Dr. Pitluck and Dr. Hodges for many years. She also helped Pete with the Hansen Lumber Company. In the late 1990's Pete & Norma moved to Lost Island Lake near Ruthven. Pete passed away in 2015 and Norma continued to make her home in Ruthven.

Norma was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ruthven and previously in Laurens, the Sacred Heart Rosary Society, Fireflies and Red Hats. She enjoyed reading, knitting, word search puzzles and making prayer shawls. She also enjoyed time spent at Lost Island Lake. She loved time spent with her family, especially with her grand and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include her children, June (Dana) Halder of Atlantic, Steve (Deb) Hansen of Bentonville, AR and Alan (Donita) Hansen of Sioux Falls, SD; daughter-in-law, Marilyn Hansen of Laurens; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and expecting another great-grandson at the end of August; brother, Tom Schneider of Long Beach, CA; sisters, Lyanne Malamed of Audubon, PA, Aileen (Harold) Larson of Cherokee and many nieces and nephews.

Norma was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Pete; son, Mark; and grandson, Doug Sangwin.
