Oscar N. Nelson Jr., age 81, of Pocahontas, passed away on Thursday, May 11, 2023, at Trinity Regional Medical Center in Fort Dodge, Iowa.

Oscar Nels Nelson Jr., was born February 3, 1942, in Pocahontas, Iowa. He was the son of Oscar and Leora (Johnson) Nelson. Oscar graduated from the Pocahontas High School in 1960. Following graduation, he entered the U.S. Army Reserve where he trained at Ft. Leonard Wood in Missouri. He then returned to Pocahontas where he worked for the Elevator for a year. On April 8, 1962, Oscar was united in marriage to Lois Samuelson at Elfsborg Lutheran Church near Pomeroy, Iowa. The couple lived on a farm near Fonda and Oscar began farming. In 1967, Oscar and Lois settled on the Nelson home place near Pocahontas. In addition to farming, Oscar worked as a driver for Windstar Bus Tours of Storm Lake and in 1999, he began driving school bus for PAC. In 2010, Oscar and Lois moved into Pocahontas. Oscar continued to farm and drive bus.

Oscar was a member of the Elfsborg Lutheran Church, where he served on several boards and sang in the choir. He was a member of the American Legion and sang in the Pocahontas Community Chorus. He enjoyed fishing, camping with family and going on family vacations. In his younger years, he and Lois enjoyed square dancing and card clubs. He also enjoyed working on cars, spending time at his shop and could fix about anything.

Survivors include his wife, Lois of Pocahontas; daughter, Twila Nelson of Pocahontas; son, Kevin Nelson of Pocahontas; granddaughter, Kelsie Nelson of Pocahontas; brothers, Leroy (Janene) Nelson of Pocahontas and Allan Nelson of Pocahontas; sister, Vickie (Bill) Clausen of Alta; brothers-in-law, Leland (Connie) Samuelson and Lowell (Rita) Samuelson; sister-in-law, Lavonne (Marv) Dirks and many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends. Everyone that knew Oscar, loved him!

Oscar was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Ranette; a brother, Arvin Nelson and sisters-in-law, Nancy Nelson and Sharon Nelson.
