Patsi R. Nystrom, age 88, of Havelock, passed away on Wednesday, August 2, 2023, at UnityPoint - St. Luke's Hospital in Sioux City, Iowa.

Patsi Rae Anderson was born February 10, 1935 in Storm Lake, Iowa. She was the daughter of Leonard Carl and Hilda Virginia (Funk) Anderson. Patsi graduated from Ware High School in 1953 and, having felt the calling to be a nurse since childhood, graduated from Methodist Hospital School of Nursing in 1956. On December 30th of that year, she married the love of her life, Robert 'Chesty' Nystrom and settled on the family farm near Havelock where they raised their kids.  Later, Patsi obtained her Bachelor of Science degree from St. Joseph College in Maine, Master of Science at University of Phoenix and her Doctor of Nursing Practice from Rocky Mountain University of Health Professionals. Patsi worked 49 years as one of the first nurse practitioners in northwest Iowa, mainly in the Emmetsburg and Graettinger areas. She retired in 2015 on her 80th birthday. Chesty passed away in 2021 and Patsi continued to live on the farm.

Patsi was a member of the Laurens United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school, wrote and produced skits and plays, performed with New Heart Singers and sang with the choir. She and Chesty sang at many funerals and weddings, hosted multiple foreign exchange students in their home, and served as youth group leaders. Patsi was a talented artist who loved to draw, write, and bake. She served on the Havelock-Plover school board, was an excellent seamstress, and loved hosting mystery parties, but her passion project was hosting 'Camp Fun' for her grandchildren at the farm for the past 20 years.

In her own words, Patsi's greatest loves were her Lord, her family, her patients, friends, Christian music, nursing, teaching youth, drawing, writing, producing church drama, and community programs.

Survivors include her children, Tami Nystrom of Pocahontas, Nichole (Dr. Mark) Thrower of Carrollton, TX, Noelle (Jay) Murray of Havelock and Ben Robinson of St. Louis, MO; 9 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; her sister, Hilda 'Honey' (Dr. Harry) Rein of Encino, CA; brother-in-law, Dr. Richard Gasser of Fort Worth, TX and sister-in-law, Henrietta (Jim) Hiott.

Patsi was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Chesty; son, Tim; brother, Lorence Anderson, sister-in-law Marilyn (Dr. Richard) Gasser; and sister and brother-in-law, Jaqueline and Francis Kelly.
