Paul Wayne Stumpf, age 90, of Fonda, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, September 30, 2023, at the Pocahontas Community Hospital, surrounded by his family.

Paul was born on December 4, 1932, on the family farm south of Fonda, the youngest of 7 children born to Frank Jr. and Augusta (Peterson) Stumpf. Paul was baptized in Christ and confirmed in the Catholic faith at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church in Fonda, where he remained a lifelong member. Paul received his education at the old country school near Fonda. In January of 1953, he was drafted into the Army, and served his country in the Korean War until he was honorably discharged on November 23, 1954.

Paul managed the Twin Lake Roller Rink with his brother, John Stumpf, after being released from the military. It was here that Paul met the love of his life, Shirley Lavonne Schossow. They were married on April 21, 1956 at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church in Fonda, and began their life together on their farm north of Fonda. The couple were blessed with four children: Joleen, Daniel, Michael, and Kevin. Paul shared his love of the outdoors with his children, teaching them to ride and care for their many ponies and horses. He and Shirley were founding members of the Fonda Saddle Club, and raised and trained horses throughout his lifetime. Paul later began raising thoroughbreds, training and racing them with the help of his son at racetracks in Iowa and Nebraska. Paul also shared his passion for hunting and trapping with his boys, a passion that his sons and grandsons share to this day.

Inseparable and devoted partners for 67 years, Paul and Shirley farmed together with their sons until he was no longer able, transitioning him to the role of "Supervisor". Watching his family grow, attending the events of his 6 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren was Paul's greatest treasure, always guiding them with his wonderful sense of humor and quiet, gentle strength, leaving them with the knowledge that they were deeply loved.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents, Frank Jr. and Augusta Stumpf; brothers, Bob, John, Kenny and Francis; sisters, Bernadine and Kathryn, their spouses, and father and mother-in-law, Marvin and Matilda Schossow.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife Shirley; children, Joleen (Rob) Allen of Churdan, Dan Stumpf of Fonda, Mike (Sally) Stumpf of Fonda, and Kevin (Shelley) Stumpf of Rolfe; grandchildren, Amy (Kelly) Minnihan of Paton, Brandon (Tonya) Harrison of Gowrie, Rob (Kelly) Allen of Ayrshire, Shane Allen (Kayli Segebart) of Scranton, Amanda (Chris) Lau of Humboldt, Jenni (Matt) Spaulding of Indianola;  great-grandchildren, Kaliyah, Keegan and Kenna Minnihan, Bryce and Tana Harrison, Paige, Abygael and Beau Allen, Kevin and Hank Lau and Kamryn Spaulding; brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
