Paul Clayton Swalin – age 87, of Pomeroy, passed away peacefully on August 9, 2022, at Accura Health Care in Pomeroy, Iowa.

Clayton was born May 30, 1935 to David and Martha (Munson) Swalin. He attended a Country School before entering Pocahontas High School and graduated with the Class of 1954. When Clayton was 7 years old, he was injured in a car accident and was unconscious at Mayo Clinic for 32 days, which left him seriously handicapped. After graduation, he farmed with his father and continued to farm after his father's death until 1973. During this time, Clayton also worked at Buske Manufacturing in Pocahontas for several years. He moved into Pomeroy in 1974 with his mother. In 2016, he moved to Scuyler Place Assisted Living, then in 2018, to the Care Center in Pomeroy.

He was a member of Evangelical Covenant Church, rural Pomeroy, and confirmed with the Class of 1948. He served his church as an usher for many years. He was also a member of the Pomeroy Lions Club. Clayton enjoyed being on a Bowling League that earned 2 ^nd place in 1976.

A highlight of his life was a 3 week trip to Japan with Pastor Metcalf and several church members. They also visited the Philippines, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Hawaii on the way home. His nephew, David Swalin, accompanied him.

Clayton was preceded in death by his parents; brother, John Swalin and wife Dorothy, and his grandparents.

He is survived by his nephew, David (Sherry) Swalin of Keosauqua, IA, and several cousins.
