Quentin Riedesel age 95 of Lohrville passed away at the Greene County Medical Center in Jefferson, Iowa on Monday, April 7, 2026.

Quentin Leon Riedesel was born September 28th, 1930 to Kermit and Elva Dowling Riedesel in Lake City, Iowa.  Quentin's youth was dedicated to the family farm near Paton, Iowa.  He played trumpet and basketball in high school.  Quentin was drafted into the Army to serve in the Korean War in 1952.  He was initially trained as an artillery radio operator.  Fortunately for his descendants, Quentin avoided front-line combat when his superiors discovered his skills as a mechanic.  He was reassigned to the motor pool at the Headquarters Battery of the 1st Field Artillery Battalion under Army Post Office 301 for much needed vehicle maintenance.  Quentin achieved the rank of Corporal and was awarded United Nations and National Defense Service medals, a Korean Service Medal with 2 Bronze Service Stars, and a Good Conduct Medal.  Quentin was released from active military service in March of 1954.

Upon his return to Iowa, Quentin met Shirley Wrede at a roller skating rink.  The two were married on June 2nd, 1954.  Shirley appealed to Quentin's sweet tooth- he grew to love her masterful meals and desserts (so did everyone).  Quentin went on to farm one of his father's Manson properties.  In the winter he would work as a mechanic for the International dealership in Manson and later at McCoy Motors in Rockwell City.  When Quentin's father, Kermit, sold his Manson properties, Quentin successfully transitioned to farming for multiple landlords.

As Quentin's operation grew, so did his family and hobbies.  Shirley brought four daughters into this world: Sheryl, Carol, Renee, and Ronette.  His girls would end up helping in the fields as soon as they were tall enough to reach a steering wheel.  Quentin acquired a pilot's license and multiple airplanes.  He would leave a long strip of land untouched as his personal runway and reveled in terrorizing his friends and family with dangerously low flybys.  Quentin had a massive machine shed and hangar built for his collection of John Deere equipment (it was more reliable than International), airplanes, classic cars, and restored antique tractors.  He also made sure to provide Shirley with top-of-line appliances and eventually a new home.  He was active with the Experimental Aircraft Association, and the VFW.  Quentin and Shirley would regularly host family gatherings including Thanksgiving- after which they would spend their winters in a sunny Arizona trailer park.  Quentin also grew to love entertaining his many grandchildren- whether it was in a tractor, a combine, an airplane, a truck, a classic car, or in his recliner sharing a bowl of popcorn.

Quentin is survived by two sons from a previous marriage: Ralph Riedesel and Roger Riedesel, his four daughters Sheryl (Dale) Quiring, Carol (Lanny) Bauer, Renee Mosbach, and Roni Stott; ten grandchildren: Eli, Blu, Hollee, Hillaree, James, Justin, Crystal, Chase, Colten, and Colin; ten great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; two siblings: Ardith Ott and Gerald Riedesel.  Quentin was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley; his parents, Elva and Kermit and one sibling: Kenneth Duane Riedesel.

A Funeral Service will be at 10:30 a.m., Friday, April 10, 2026, at the Pilgrim Lutheran Church in Lake City, Iowa. Visitation will be from 9:30 until the service starts at 10:30.  The burial will take place in the Lanesboro Cemetery.
