Robert C. Naughton, age, 94, of West Des Moines, Iowa, formerly of Pocahontas, passed away on Monday, October 21, 2019, at the WesleyLife Hospice in Johnston, Iowa.

Robert Cletus Naughton was born November 28, 1924, in Pocahontas, Ia. He was the son of Michael and Mary (Murphy) Naughton. Upon graduation from Havelock High School in 1941, Bob joined his dad to work on the farm, when harvest was finished, he and two friends left for Des Moines, Ia.  He was hired by Newfield Employment Agency and worked there until spring and returned to the farm. In the spring of 1943, he started farming on his own using his dad's equipment. When the fall arrived, Bob married his high school sweetheart, Ivadel Wagner, on October 21, 1943, in Pocahontas, and to this union one child was born, Connie. 1950 brought a new job for Bob, working for Bell Telephone Co. laying cables.  Then in 1951, he went to work for Iowa Gas Company, a new business in Pocahontas, Ia. In 1953, he was asked to move to Storm Lake, Ia. to work for Midwest Gas Co. which in 1955 was sold to Thermogas.  Bob worked as plant manager until 1968.  He was then transferred to Des Moines, Ia to manage the Industrial Department of Thermogas. In September of 1989, he was offered early retirement due to changes in the department.

1990 found Bob working for Grinnell Mutual Insurance as an adjuster.

Bob and Ivy bought a home in Apache Junction, AZ and spent their winter months there.  Bob was involved in playing the fiddle twice a week at Jam sessions.  His passion was music and he was a great story teller you could listen to for hours. In his younger years, Bob enjoyed hunting. Bob attended Sacred Heart Church in Des Moines.

Bob is survived by his grandson, Scott; granddaughter, Molly; three grandchildren, Dylan, Kyle and Jessica Wernli of Omaha; brothers, Dennis of Yorba Linda, CA and Don of Bemidji, MN; many nieces and nephews, cousins and good friends he has met along the way.

Preceding him in death was his loving wife, Ivy; his daughter, Connie; four infant children; brothers, Billy and Vincent; sisters-in-law, Ann Naughton and Doris Naughton and his parents, Mike and Mary Naughton.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Hospice of Brio, Johnston, Iowa.
