Robert "Chesty" O. Nystrom – age 86, of Havelock, passed away on Tuesday, March 9, 2021, at his home near Havelock, Iowa.

Robert Oscar Nystrom was born July 9, 1934 in Sioux City, Iowa. He was the son of Oscar and Ruby (Hauswirth) Nystrom. Chesty attended grade school in Sioux City and in Havelock, graduating from Havelock High School in 1952. Chesty served in the U.S. Army from 1955 – 1956. On December 30, 1956, Chesty was united in marriage to Patsi Anderson in Havelock. The couple settled on the family farm near Havelock where they farmed and raised their family. In 1977 Chesty earned his Associate of Arts degree from Sioux Empire College.

Chesty was a member of the United Methodist Church, having served on many church boards over the years. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and the Havelock AMVETS, where he was Commander for many years. Chesty loved music and playing the piano. He had a beautiful tenor voice and sang with the New Heart Singers for years. He was an umpire and referee for the Iowa High School Athletic Association for over 50 years. He was a legendary baseball player and could play any position on the field at age 61. He loved sports, coaching and refereeing and was a catcher in fast pitch softball.

Survivors include his wife, Patsi; children, Tami (Erika Mar) Nystrom of Allen, TX, Nichole (Dr. Mark) Thrower of Carrollton, TX, Noelle (Jay) Murray of North Liberty and Ben Robinson of St. Louis, MO; 9 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren and twin sister, Marilyn (Dr. Richard) Gasser of Ft. Worth, TX. Robert was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Tim.
