Ronald E. Cowan, age 81, formerly of Laurens, Iowa passed away from Parkinsons disease Wednesday, August 28, 2019, at the Hope Creek Care Center in East Moline, IL.

Ronald Edgar Cowan was born on August 26, 1938, in Des Moines, Iowa. He was the son of Leonard J. and Marie (Stuhr) Cowan and was raised on a 130yr old family farm north of Laurens. He was educated in Laurens schools, graduating from Laurens High School in 1956. Following high school, Ron attended Buena Vista College in Storm Lake and then the University of Iowa. He later went on to attend the graduate school of banking. Ron was united in marriage June 12th 1961 to Jeanne Hanish at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Ames, Iowa. Ron enlisted in the U.S. Army, where he served from 1962 to 1965. For most of his service he was in the Army Security Agency stationed in Germany. Ron & Jeanne returned to Iowa after his service, Ron worked in the banking business in the Sioux City area before returning to Laurens where he worked as a loan officer at the Laurens State Bank, retiring in the late 1990's.

Ron was a past member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Laurens Community Players. He served on the Laurens Light Plant Board, Treasurer of the Pocahontas County Red Cross, Lions Club member, and as a Cub Scout Master. Ron's passions were, the manufacturer & design of military style weapons, collecting arrow heads, reading, singing, his children & grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Jeanne Cowan of Milan, IL; children, Spencer (Jill) Cowan of Chaska, MN, Dirk (Anne Pearce) Cowan of Lagoona Beach, CA, Nicole (Terry) Kissner of Milan, IL, and Clinton (Heather) Cowan of Frisco, TX; 11 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren and a sister, Janet Carlson of Laurens. Ron was preceded in death by his parents.
