Ronald J. Payer - age 77, of Pocahontas, passed away Wednesday, May 1, 2019, at the Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa.
Ronald James Payer was born November 27, 1941, on the family farm near Pocahontas, Iowa. He was the son of John F. and Agnes (Stoulil) Payer. Ron attended Roosevelt #8 Country School, Pocahontas Catholic School and Pocahontas High School and later earned his GED. In the summer of 1960, Ron enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He served from 1960 until 1965 and was stationed in the Philippines, Japan and Pearl Harbor. Following his discharge, he returned to Pocahontas. In June of 1967, Ron married Judy Shaw at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Pocahontas. The couple settled in Pocahontas and Ron worked as a machinist at various manufacturing plants in Pocahontas and Laurens. Judy passed away in 1978.
Ron enjoyed hunting, fishing near Walker, Minnesota, trapshooting, golfing and collecting guns.
Ron is survived by his brothers, Duane (Shirley) Payer of Centerville and Bob (Patty) Payer of Storm Lake and many nieces and nephews. Ron was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Judy; sisters, Doris Pickering, Bernice Noyes and Geraldine Jordan and brothers, Jerome, John "Jack" and Ray Payer.
