Sarah Meyer, age 83 of Tuscan, AZ, and of Lohrville, IA, passed away unexpectedly on January 19, 2025, at Stewart Memorial Community Hospital in Lake City, IA.   Sarah Jean Meyer was born on October 26, 1941, to parents Donald and Sarah (Canfield) Gemberling in Mechanicsville, IA. She grew up in Lohrville, IA, where she attended grade school and high school.  After graduation, Sarah continued her education at Buena Vista University, double majoring in Psychology and Social Work.

In 1960, Sarah was united in marriage to George Zimmerman.    This union was blessed with three children: Kelly, Carrie, and Clay.  After George passed away, Sarah was united in marriage in 1969, to Leroy Meyer.  This union was blessed with a son, Grant.

Sarah was a proud mother and social worker.  Throughout her life she worked at the Win Program in Council Bluffs, IA, as an employment counselor.  She then moved to California where she worked at the Department of Social Services in Riverside, CA, as a social worker in child protective services, Intracorp in San Bernardino, CA, as a vocational rehab specialist for injured workers.  Sarah then went into self-employment and sales before working for Bakes Valley Unified Schools in Caker, CA, as the Dean of Students.  From 1994 until her retirement, Sarah worked for Washington Inventory Service taking inventory of business stock.   In her free time, Sarah enjoyed reading, traveling, fishing, and gambling at the casino.

Those left to cherish her memory include her children:  Kelly (Larry) Moore of Ogden, IA, Kerry Logging of Ames, IA, Clay Zimmerman of Sac City, IA, and Grant Meyer of Lytton, IA; grandchildren: Garrett Finley, Erin Finley, Derek Finley, Charles Loggins, William Loggins, Sara Vaughan, Samuel Zimmerman, Nadia Meyer, Otter Meyer, and Shiloh Meyer; three great-grandchildren and one on the way; and brother Carl Gemberling of Lohrville, IA.

Sarah was preceded in death by her husband George Zimmerman, sister Helen, and brother Donald.

A Celebration of Life will be 1:00 - 4:00 p.m., Saturday, May 24, 2025, at the Lohrville Fire Station.
