Scott L. Frye - age 63, of Laurens, passed away on Thursday, April 21, 2022, at the Pocahontas Community Hospital in Pocahontas, Iowa.

Scott Lloyd Frye was born on March 18th, 1959 to Bonnie and Erwin Frye of Laurens, IA and was the third of their four children. He grew up on the farm helping his dad with the hogs and field work. As a young boy he was often found outside sitting on the tractor pretending to be driving it through the fields of corn and beans. He attended Ware school through 1st grade and then attended Laurens Public School. He graduated with the first class of Laurens – Marathon Consolidated School in 1977.

After high school he attended the Des Moines Area Community College in Ankeny and received a 2-year degree in Ag Business. In 1978 he married his high school sweetheart, Cheri Wells, from Pocahontas, IA, and they moved to the Des Moines area where Scott worked as a hired man for a large farm operation. In 1981 they welcomed their first child, Christina, into the world and then welcomed Amanda in 1984. Scott worked for two other large farm operations one in Sac City and the other in Laurens. After his grandmother, Martha Frye, passed away, Scott and his family moved back to the home place and lived in his grandmother's brick house. He then started farming with his dad and raised both hogs and grain crops of corn & beans. In 1991 son, Jacob, was born and the family was complete.

Along with farming, Scott started working part time for Positech Corporation in Laurens as an Assembler in 1995. He really enjoyed the challenge of assembling and plumbing the pneumatic controls of material handling manipulators that were used in a large variety of manufacturing facilities across America and abroad. He had an innate ability to problem solve and figure out how to make the machines work efficiently. After his father passed away and the farm land was sold, Scott worked full time at Positech first in Assembly, then moving into the Engineering Department as the Pneumatic Schematics Designer, and lastly into the Sales department as Service Manager. He enjoyed this job for 26 years and made many wonderful friends in the company that he also considered family.

Scott wasn't all work and no play. He loved to bowl and went to many Farm Bureau bowling tournaments with doubles partner, Lynn Garrels, from Sac City. They even won the state doubles bowling championship one year. He continued bowling at the Laurens Lounge and Lanes after the family moved to Laurens, and had fun bowling on men's league and mixed league with Cheri and Jim & Kelly Van Sickle. He loved taking the kids fishing and camping, and he also found a love of motorcycle riding. On his trusty Honda Valkyrie he rode over 60,000 miles on trips with family and friends to the southwest, the Rockies, Glacier, Yellowstone, Estes Park, the Black Hills, Missouri & Arkansas, The Great Smokie Mountains, the Tail of the Dragon, the super bike races at Elkhart Lake, WI, and Sturgis. He found joy and peace with the wind in his face.

Scott was also very accomplished at construction, plumbing, and electrical work as he built an addition in the attic of the brick house, and remodeled his parent's house after his mother went to live at the care center. He was also willing to help his kids with construction projects and taught them the basics as they worked along-side him.

Scott is survived by his wife, Cheri, daughter Christi (Scott) Boudewyns of Des Moines, IA, daughter Mandy Frye (Chris Aumueller) of Lincoln, NE, son Jacob (Melissa) Frye of Lake View, IA, grandchildren Evie Rose, Owen, and Lincoln, brother Virgil Frye (Mary Blasing) of Flagstaff, AZ, brother, David (Angie) Frye of Storm Lake, and sister Karen (Terry) Bent of Middletown, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents, Erwin and Bonnie Frye of Laurens.

Though he is gone from our sight, he will live on forever in the hearts of his family and friends who loved him.
