Steve Brown, age 71, of Pocahontas, passed away on Saturday, January 18, 2025, at his home in Pocahontas, Iowa.

Steven Eugene Brown was born on May 8, 1953 at Storm Lake Hospital to parents, Guy Brown and Kathleen (Irwin) Brown.

Steve was raised in Pierson, Iowa and graduated from Kingsley-Pierson Community School District in 1971.  From there, he went on to Westmar University in LeMars, Iowa to major in instrumental music.  He loved college and traveled with the Westmar Chorale in Europe and the western United States, graduating in 1975.  To this day many of the members of the group still get together and share memories and keep in touch with the members who are far away.  Steve loved Westmar and his big family of friends, especially his connection with instructor, Dr. Olson.

After graduation, Steve accepted the job of band instructor for Pomeroy Community School District as instructor for the 5th-12th grade band.  Steve was known for his knowledge of music and his connections with students.  He was a teacher of music and life, spending many hours preparing for contests and dinner theaters, receiving many accolades and awards along the way.  However, being Mr. Brown, he gave all the credit to his students.  He stayed in Pomeroy for 36 years despite other school districts trying to entice him away.

Steve was also very active in the community and served on numerous boards and committees.

Steve married Julie Wiese on June 25th, 2021, in Pocahontas, Iowa.  Acquiring grandchildren was such a gift as Steve became the best Pappa. A trip to Ireland became the trip of a lifetime and Steve was so excited and felt so blessed to see the homeland of his grandparents.

Steve was taken too soon and left to carry on without him are his wife, Julie; siblings, Dan (Anne) Brown of Ogden, Utah; Rhonda (Jim) Wangerin of Deer Lodge, Montana; Wendell (Cindy) Brown of Polk City, Iowa. He is also survived by his stepchildren, Haylee (Angelo); Deb-Nubila, Ankeny, Iowa; Josh (Starr) Oswald, Osceola, Iowa; Allison (Nick) Cooper, Dave Helmers both of Pocahontas, Iowa and many nieces and nephews throughout the United States.

Steve so enjoyed being Pappa to his grandchildren: Cainan, Teagan, Emersyn, Jagger, Cooper, Lennie, Levi and Liv Helmers, Remi, Tyson and Tatum Oswald. And let's not forget his students and staff from Pomeroy-Palmer school district. Thank you Mr. Brown the true "Leader of the Band" and one of the kindest humans on this earth for touching all our lives and making them better.
