Steve Shimon, age 59, of Rolfe, passed away on Monday, August 7, 2023, at Fonda Specialty Care in Fonda, Iowa.

Steven Lowell Shimon was born on August 15, 1963, in Fort Dodge, Iowa. He was the son of Lowell and Adele (Haag) Shimon and graduated from Rolfe High School. Steve farmed briefly with his dad, and then worked for Luft and Sons for over 35 years where he especially enjoyed operating the dozer. A friend, mentor and role model to many, Steve cut a very wide swath. He positively impacted a lot of people, both young and old alike. He made his home on a farm a few miles south of Rolfe.

Steve enjoyed time with his family and friends, the farm, tractor rides, lending a helping hand, his tractors, golf, pitching a softball fundraiser, and a great grilled Iowa ribeye steak.

Survivors include siblings Cathy of St. Paul, MN; Louis of rural Pocahontas, Sue of Pocahontas, and Ben of Storm Lake; sister-in-law Amy Shimon, niece Katie Shimon and nephew Clay Shimon of Sikeston, MO.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents, his grandparents, and his brother Philip.

Many thanks to Steve's family and friends who supported him throughout his life, and especially through his illness. Thank you to the community for all the generosity and kindnesses, and to the health care providers at St. Croix Hospice, Fonda Specialty Care, and UnityPoint Health-St. Luke's in Sioux City. Steve's passing leaves an enormous hole in our hearts and lives.
