Velma Jean Davis, age 91, of Pocahontas, IA passed away on Monday, November 6, 2023, at the Good Samaritan Society in Manson, IA.

Velma was born August 31, 1932, on the farm near Clare, Iowa. She was the daughter of Egbert & Gesine (Peters) Peters. She attended country school through 8th grade and graduated from Manson High School in 1951 as Salutatorian of her class. She attended Wartburg College and then worked for an accounting firm in Fort Dodge, IA. On September 22, 1956, Velma married Karl O. Davis at St. John's Lutheran Church, Lizard TWP, near Palmer, IA. They lived in Fort Dodge and Story City briefly and then moved to Paullina, IA in 1961. In 1974, the couple moved with their family and settled in Pocahontas. Velma spent most of her married life as a homemaker. Velma's husband Karl passed away in 2018. Velma was a kindhearted person, beautiful inside and out. She loved to take care of others and was very faithful. She could be quite competitive when playing card and board games with her family. Velma loved spending time with her kids, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was proud of them all.

Velma was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church and the Charity Circle and American Legion Auxiliary. She spent many years teaching Sunday School and participating in the church choir.

Velma will be dearly missed by those who knew her and loved her. Those left to cherish her memory include her children Rhonda (Harry) Stoulil of Pocahontas, Doug Davis of Fort Dodge, Connie (Todd) Braga of Clive and Jeff Davis and special friend Darlene of Pocahontas; six grandchildren, Derick Stoulil, Justin Stoulil, Zak (Emily) Stoulil, Josh Davis, Cassi (Kyle) Heuer and Kelsi (Josh) Gittins; 10 great grandchildren; sister Floreen Johnson of St. Joseph MO, sister-in-law Laura Davis of Phoenix AZ and many nieces and nephews.

Velma was preceded in death by her husband; parents; brothers, Wayne Peters and Harold Peters; sisters and their spouses, Lois (Jerry) Blair and Maxine (Marvin "Butch") Hampton and brothers-in-law, Glen Johnson and Richard Davis.

Velma's family would like to thank Manson Good Samaritan Society and St. Croix Hospice. They are so grateful for the wonderful, gentle, and heartfelt care she received during her short stay there.
