Verla J. Christensen, age 95, of Laurens, passed away Saturday, November 4, 2023, at the Pocahontas Community Hospital in Pocahontas, Iowa.

Verla Jane Brazier was born on August 13, 1928, in Havelock, Iowa. She was the daughter of William and Lena (Claussen) Brazier. Verla graduated from Havelock School in May of 1945. Upon graduation, she worked at M & JR Hakes for 6 years. She then met Wendell Walter Christensen at the Riadatto Dance Hall where Wendell played in the band frequently. On February 11, 1951, Verla was united in marriage to Wendell at the Havelock Methodist Church. They lived and farmed north of Laurens for the next 51 years until they sold the farm and purchased a home in Laurens. In 2011, Verla moved to Mitchell, SD so Connie could care for her. In August of 2021, she moved back to the Laurens Care Center when she required more care

Verla was very involved in the Methodist Church and served as the secretary-treasurer for 28 years until she retired. She was a Sunday school teacher and was President of Esther Circle for numerous years and served on several church committees. She enjoyed being a Girl Scout leader for 4 years and was a member of the Eastern Star since 1965. Verla also was the clerk for Booth Township in Palo Alto County and served as Chairman for the Palo Alto Community Fund. She was also a member of the Sunshine Circle and Just-A-Mere Club. Verla very much enjoyed her bridge and pinochle card clubs and would play cards everyday if she could find someplace to play

Survivors include her daughter, Connie (Stuart) Boughey; 8 grandchildren, Eve (Shawn), Preston, Fletcher (Katie), Heather (Josh), Erik, Tracie, Tonya and Niki; 15 great-grandchildren, Kyle, Kayla, Kara, Konnor, Kory, Kole, Kyle, Cameron, Paige, Zakiah, Zander, Wendy, Zane, Dawson and Jayden, and great-great-granddaughters, Bentley and Saige

Verla was preceded in death by her parents; beloved husband, Wendell; son, Terry; brother, James; father and mother-in-law, Walter and Laura Christensen, and her daughter-in-law, Laurel Snow Holt Christensen.
