Vincent L. Triggs – age 95, of Urbandale, formerly of Laurens, passed away on Monday, July 12, 2021, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa.

Vincent LaVerne Triggs was born on his family farm four miles south of Ayrshire, Iowa, the son of John and Lucille (Bishop) Triggs.  At the age of seven his family moved to Laurens, IA where he attended the Laurens Community Schools until he volunteered for the US Army from 1943-46.  He served in combat in the European Theater in the Battle of the Bulge where he was awarded the Bronze Star.  Vince had the distinction of having served in both the Army's 75 ^th Infantry Division of Combat and the 8 ^th Air Force, where he served after spending three and a half months in a hospital.

Upon release from the military Vince finished his senior year of high school in Palmer, IA where his parents were living at that time.  He graduated in 1947.  That fall, he went to work for the C.I. Hersom Construction Company in Laurens.  A year later he became the manager of The Laurens Electric & Building Supply, a job he held until retirement in 1986.

Vince married Eileen Hersom on April 2, 1950.  After returning from their honeymoon, they began construction on their home where they lived for sixty-five years.   Vince and Eileen sold their home in 2015 and moved to The Reserve in Urbandale, IA.

Vince is survived by his wife Eileen, children: Mike (Rick), Jane Hillock (Tom), Scott (Michelle) and Peggy, four grandchildren, Christina Corieri, Stephanie Flies (Alan), Angi Cicillini (Vincent) and Erik Triggs (Amy), seven great grand-children and a sister Vira Metzger.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Eileen O'Brien.

Vince loved the Laurens Community where he served as a volunteer fireman, city council member and Chairman of the Laurens Municipal Utilities Board. In 1990 he was elected to the Pocahontas County Board of Supervisors where he served for 24 years.  On his retirement from the county board, he was the oldest elected Supervisor in the state.  He enjoyed golf, hunting, fishing, woodworking and spending time with his family at his condo at Lake Okoboji.

He was the scoutmaster of Troop 99 and saw the troop grow from 17 to 74 scouts during his time as scoutmaster.  Vince often credited skills he learned as a boy scout to surviving the freezing temperatures during the Battle of the Bulge.

He was a member of The Laurens chamber of Commerce, The American Legion, the VFW, the Lions Club and Kiwanis, the Masonic Lodge, the Scottish Rite and the Abu Bkr Shrine Club where he enjoyed clowning with the Lakes Area Funsters.  He was a lifelong member of the First Christian Church in Laurens and has been a member of the West Des Moines Christian Church since moving to Urbandale.

The family has asked that memorial contributions be made to either the Laurens VFW Post 3533 or the Shriners Hospitals for Children.
