According to Viola's wishes - a private graveside service will be held at the Clinton-Garfield Cemetery near Rolfe, Iowa on Friday, December, 11, 2020.

Viola M. Weiland - age 92, of Pocahontas, formerly of Rolfe, passed away Wednesday, December 9, 2020, at the Pocahontas Manor in Pocahontas, Iowa.

Viola Mae Gunnarson was born on August 9, 1928, near Marathon, Iowa. She was the daughter of Vicktor and Ruth (John) Gunnarson. Viola graduated from Marathon High School in 1947. She worked at Spencer Ice Cream and Woolworth in Spencer, Iowa. On December 26, 1954, Viola was united in marriage to Edward "Sonny" Weiland on her parent's farm near Marathon. The couple settled in Rolfe where Viola worked as an Aide at the Rolfe Care Center for several years. She also operated a ceramic shop in Rolfe. In 2014, Viola moved to the Pocahontas Manor in Pocahontas. Sonny passed away in October of 2019.

Viola was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church. She enjoyed doing ceramics.

Survivors include close friends, Keith and Ardis Shelgren of Rolfe, IA, Marlys Weiland of Des Moines, IA and Brian and Nicole Bennett of Rolfe, IA.

Viola was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Edward "Sonny" Weiland; brother, Eldon and sister, Alva.
