Wayne Otto DeWall, 78, of Havelock, died Saturday, June 27, 2026, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, July 1st, at Powers Funeral Home in Pocahontas with a private family burial to follow.

Wayne was born April 16, 1948 in Fort Dodge, Iowa, to Otto and Lois DeWall. He grew up on the family farm south of Pocahontas. His family later moved the farm southeast of Havelock, where he lived at the time of his passing. He graduated from Havelock-Plover High School in 1966 and was a member of the U.S. Army Reserves.

On Nov. 22, 1969, he married Mary Ann Krips in Pocahontas. They had four children, Tina, Tricia, Matt, and Kate. Wayne worked for Stan Levene Construction in Pocahontas, learning how to build homes and make cabinets. When Otto and Lois retired and moved to town, Wayne took over farming and moved to their home near Havelock.

Wayne loved hunting and shooting and the outdoors. He enjoyed taking trips to visit friends in Montana and Wyoming and though he was a farmer, he was a cowboy at heart. He was a talented woodworker and, after he retired from farming, spent weekdays in his shop in Pocahontas, the noon hour playing cards with friends, and evenings at home in his recliner watching Westerns. He loved a warm Coke in a can, homemade chocolate chip cookies, and having things done "Wayne's way."

After Mary Ann died unexpectedly in 2016, he continued to live on the farm and incorporated cooking, laundry, and many other household chores into his routine. Though numerous health issues slowed him down during the last five years, he never gave up on himself or the people and things he loved.

He is survived by his children and their spouses, Tina and Jay Friday of Mason City, Iowa; Tricia and Dan Brown of Iowa City, Iowa; Matt and Jen DeWall of Adel, Iowa; and Kate and Cameron Smith of Pasadena, California; four grandchildren, Bridget Brown, Muriel Brown, Sami DeWall, and Jase DeWall; his brother David (Barb) DeWall of Pocahontas; and his sister Lola (Joe) Kapaun of Hudson, Iowa, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Lynn; and wife, Mary Ann.

In lieu of flowers and gifts, the family requests memorials in Wayne's name.
