Bill A. Brady – age 91, of Pocahontas, IA, formerly of Alcester, SD, passed away peacefully at his home in Arlington Place of Pocahontas, Iowa on Monday, March 28, 2022.

William Alexander Brady was born on June 10, 1930, at home in Dorsey, Nebraska. He was the son of W. Lloyd and Iva G. (Butterfield) Brady. He was raised on the family farm and told many fond stories of his childhood. He was baptized at the Dorsey Presbyterian Church on April 29th, 1934, along with his sisters Betty, Joan and Ivalyn and his mother Iva. Lloyd had been baptized many years before.

Bill graduated from O'Neill High School in 1948. After graduation he worked for a local rancher until he was drafted into the Army in January 1952. He served two years during the Korean war. He was never deployed overseas during that time. His duties remained Stateside where he trained on many different wartime machines as well as did clerical work for the Army. Upon his discharge, he spent one semester in college. He decided college wasn't for him and he returned to working on the ranch as a ranch hand. He later moved to Omaha where he bought his first semi with his brother-in-law Dean VanEvery. They worked together for one year and then separated. Bill continued his trucking business for the next several years. He loved sharing his stories of trucking all over the United States. In 1962 he met the love of his life, Judy. They were united in marriage on September 15, 1962. In 1963, he sold his semi and began working for Paul Lucht body shop in Omaha where he worked in the frame department as the front-end alignment foreman. In 1975 Bill and Judy moved their family from the big city of Omaha to an acreage near Alcester, South Dakota. They were always looking out for their daughters and felt raising them in a small town would be beneficial and would allow them to be around family. Bill worked for Alkota manufacturing in Alcester until 1984 at which time he started his own business, Brady Gravel. He sold his first load of gravel on April 5, 1984, and his last load in November of 1992. In 1996, Bill and Judy sold their acreage and moved into the town of Alcester. They loved their home in town where they had the grade school playground in their backyard. Due to declining health, they sold their home in 2016 and moved to an apartment in Alcester for a few months. They then moved to Golden Meadows apartments in Manson, Iowa in January of 2017 and then to Arlington Assisted Living in May 2018. While missing their town of Alcester and their many friends, they were blessed with new friends at Arlington.

Bill loved gardening, fishing, travel adventures with family and friends, domino tournaments and coffee at DJ's. He especially loved spending time with his family and grandchildren. He could fix or build anything. He put remodeling touches on all the houses he owned, as well as his daughters' homes and those in the community of Alcester.

Bill and Judy were members of the Alcester Baptist Church. Bill knew and trusted in his Lord and Savior. He was a wonderful husband and father. His daughters and grandchildren have been able to learn by his example and will cherish his memory forever.

Survivors include his loving wife of 59 years, Judith Osa (Robertson) Brady of Pocahontas, daughters Susan (Brent) Aden of Pomeroy, IA, Shayna (Michael) Ness of Waubay, SD and Kathleen (Larry) Ouellette of Green Bay, WI, 11 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren along with many nieces and nephews.

Bill was preceeded in death by his parents; sisters Betty Richter, Joan Stanley and Ivalyn VanEvery; brother John Brady and an infant brother.
