William F. Devereaux, Sr. – age 78, of Pocahontas, passed away on Wednesday, November 2, 2022, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa.

William Francis Devereaux was born February 19, 1944, in Fort Dodge, Iowa. He was the son of Francis and Mildred (Olberding) Devereaux, the oldest of 11 children. Bill graduated from Pocahontas Catholic High School in 1962, then entered the United States Navy, serving from 1963 to 1967. After his service, Bill worked as an electrician for Sundberg Electric in Pocahontas. On October 12, 1968, Bill was united in marriage to Sandra Kay Ludwig in West Bend, Iowa. The couple settled in Pocahontas. In 1971, Bill purchased Sundberg Electric, which became Devereaux Electric. He operated the business for many years, retiring in 2012.

Bill was a member of Resurrection of Our Lord Catholic Church and the Pocahontas American Legion. He enjoyed photography, target shooting, tractor pulls and attending the Iowa State Fair. He created "Devereaux Park" in the empty lot next to him and Sandy's house. Bill loved talking to people and especially loved the time he spent with family.

Survivors include his wife, Sandy of Pocahontas; sons, Bill (Shannon) of Cedar Rapids, and Joseph (Heather) of Buffalo NY, and daughter Susie (Steve) of Des Moines; grandchildren, Ariana, Jenaya, Zach, Natalie and Shay; great-grandchildren, Bentley and Ryker; brothers, Dennis (Melissa) of Fonda, David of Wildwood, MO; Gary (Annette) of Fonda, and Alan (Mary) of Omaha, NE; sisters, Patricia (Lee) Bailey of Laurens and Lois (Ed) LeFebvre of Omaha, NE; brothers-in-law, Doug Jones of Osceola, NE, and Jerry Brunsing of West Point NE, and many nieces and nephews.

William was preceded in death by his parents, Francis and Mildred; grandsons, Nicholas and Jacob; sisters, Rosalie, Jean and Mary, and a brother, Joseph.
