Marian Hood

Marian Frances Hood, daughter of Bernard & Berndiena Hudek, was born on February 27th, 1941, in Pocahontas, Iowa. At the age of 85, she passed away on May 7th, 2026 at the Cottages in Pella, Iowa.

Marian graduated from high school in Pocahontas. She attended the University of Northern Iowa, graduating with a degree in teaching which became her lifelong career. She married Gilbert Hood on June 26, 1965, in Pocahontas. The couple lived in Rutland, Iowa where Gilbert farmed and Marian taught. In 1970, the couple moved to Bloomfield, Iowa. Gilbert continued to farm while Marian stayed home and raised two sons. Marian returned to teaching in 1977 and retired from Davis County Elementary School in 2002.

When not teaching and taking care of her family, Marian loved to spend her time quilting, crocheting, gardening and doing puzzles. She greatly enjoyed spending time with her granddaughters. Marian was also a lover of dachshunds and was the proud owner of many over her lifetime.

Those left to honor Marian's memory are her two sons and daughters-in-law, Brian & Kim Hood of Mitchellville, IA and Bill & Darci Hood of Reasnor, IA; six granddaughters Jenny (Tanner) Lough, Grace (Josh Adams) Hood, Emma Hood, Haley (Ethan) Cline, Lindsey (Russ) Paramore, and Oliva (Trevor Fagg) Hood; three great grandchildren Charlotte, Weston and Jackson; and sister-in-law Frances (Donald) Hedeman.

She was preceded in death by both parents and her husband Gilbert.

Memorials may be given to Pella Hospice.

Funeral Mass is 11:00 AM, Tuesday, May 12, 2026, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Pella, Iowa. Visitation is 10 - 11 AM, Tuesday, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Pella before the Mass time. Burial will take place at a later date in Calvary Cemetery in Pocahontas, Iowa.
